Maine, The Home Place, by Murad Sayen is a wonderful book. Not only is it visually beautiful, there is an honest and unvarnished aspect to it. It is obvious that Murad knows and loves Maine, but not in a sentimental way. He is sharing his sense of beauty and understanding and in a way expressing something about our national roots. We have become so mobile as a culture that many of us have lost our sense of home and yet we still remember or long for that connection with a place that is real and solid. In a sense this book is a way of finding home though a series of remarkably beautiful images.
