Metaphysical readings will include books that I go to for inspiration and sources of wisdom. This list may include spiritual, philosophical, or inspirational readings, but all are books that have helped me gain understanding.
Mastery Through Accomplishment
by Hazrat Inayat Khan. This is a wonderful book, full of wisdom and practical ways of
looking at life and being in the world. I read passages from Hazrat in the morning to
clear my mind and set the tone for the day.
The User
Illusion by Tor Norrentranders. This is a fascinating look at how science has
explored the mind and consciousness. It lays a down a fascinating framework for the
exploration of consciousness and draws some interesting conclusions about how we perceive
reality. If you enjoy philosophy, psychology and the study of consciousness, this will be
an good read.
Wherever You Go There You Are
by Jon Kabat-Zinn. The subtitle of this book is "mindfulness meditation in everyday
life" and it is a basis primer for discovering meditative practice in daily life.
Simple truths well put and a good place to start.
Home, Chronical of a North
Country Life by Beth Powning. I love this book. It combines beautiful images and
simple wisdom. The prose is full of sensual imagery and draws truth from everyday,
conscious living. Inspirational and wonderful. I have a link to Beth and her husband's
site as well as a page on this book. You can get this book by contacting Beth directly via
the hyperlink to her email.
Anam Cara Anam Cara by
John O'Donohue. Anam Cara, Gaelic for "soul friend," is an ancient
journey down a nearly forgotten path of wisdom into what it means to be human. Drawing on
this age-old perspective, John O'Donohue helps us to see ourselves as the Celts did: we're
more than just flesh, blood, and bone; we comprise individual worlds. The comprehension of
the sublime architecture of the worlds we are born with will engender a new appreciation
for the outside world and the way we contribute to its evolution. Recommended by Jeanne
Kelso.
Art and Fear by David Bayles and Ted Orland. This is a wonderful book that deals with the mental and spiritual confrontations all artists experience. Honest, well written and helpful, especially when you are experiencing problems. Recommended by Peter Powning.
