Randal Graham's closed frame press is built entirely from eight inch channel. It is an all welded design with good support and stability. Randal is an ex ship builder and knows how to weld them together. I like this design.
Mel Pardue took a different approach and built his out of heavy angle iron. This unit is bolted together and there is some movement in the frame. It would benefit from some welded cross bracing, but still is a good design and is running a heavy duty eight inch cylinder.
